Mission Statement

Franconia was an important cradle of Jewish life in Southern Germany. The Jewish Museum Franconia provides fascinating insights into this almost thousand-year-old Jewish history. The Jewish Museum Franconia sees itself as a center for knowledge and understanding of Jewish history and culture in Franconia. In its three buildings in Fürth, Schnaittach and Schwabach, the Jewish Museum in Franconia conveys the diversity of Franconian-Jewish life from its beginnings to the present day. Exhibitions, educational programs, research projects, events, publications and collection activities serve this purpose in particular. Participating in current social debates and taking a stance is part of the Museum’s self-image.

All Museums are located in historical monuments dating back to the 16th to 18th centuries. They have sukkahs and ritual baths that have survived to this day. Together with the extensive collections of Judaica and everyday objects, the museums convey a vivid picture of Jewish life in Franconia – from the urban and small-town to the rural milieu, from its beginnings to the present day.
